what happens to your words.

Plain answers. Last updated 17 October 2026.

what is collected

The audio you record, and the transcript, notes and summary made from it. If you sign in: your name, email address and a link to your profile picture from your sign-in service, and, for each sign-in session, the IP address and the browser or device identifier the request came from. If you buy credit: the purchase record (amount, date and the payment provider's transaction identifiers, never a card number). If you choose to save a card at checkout, the payment provider holds it; we hold only a customer reference. Problem reports sent from the app include the app version, device model and operating-system version; reports sent from the web without an account keep the email address you typed. Operational logs contain request and error metadata; the application is designed not to log audio or transcript text. Third-party services and infrastructure may retain data under their own policies.

where it goes

We use third-party services for speech recognition, language processing, hosting, sign-in, payments, email delivery and support delivery. Recorded audio and derived text may be sent to speech and language services to make your transcript and notes. Exports you ask for, which can contain transcript text, leave through our email provider. Sign-in services receive account-identifying information; payment services receive purchase information. These services process the information shared with them under their own terms. The app emails you only when you ask for an export, and only to your sign-in address. We do not sell your recordings or use them for advertising.

how long it is kept

Without an account, a recording is kept on our server for up to 24 hours before a cleanup sweep, except while deletion is retrying after a storage failure. With an account, recordings stay until you delete them or delete the account. Account deletion immediately ends sign-in access and starts removal of server-side recordings, transcripts, notes and app-managed support copies. Automatic cleanup retries after a failure without requiring you to sign in. Some older archive copies need a separate manual step by our team. Deletion remains pending until required cleanup is confirmed; contact support for its status.

When account cleanup completes, identifying profile fields are removed from the account record. Financial and usage records, payment-provider customer and transaction records, and a one-way marker derived from your email may remain for accounting and abuse prevention. They are pseudonymous, not guaranteed anonymous. Email already accepted by an external mailbox cannot be recalled. Routine backups are kept for about 30 days; older archived copies are held separately and are not covered by that routine schedule. Third-party processors may retain copies under their own retention schedules. We do not claim instant deletion from every backup, archive, mailbox or provider.

Sign-in session records, including the IP address and browser or device identifier, are removed a day after the session expires. App-managed support messages expire after 30 days. Sent email bodies and recipients are removed from the app's delivery queue after sending; interrupted deliveries are retained for at most 30 days. Messages already delivered to your mailbox or the support mailbox follow that mailbox's retention settings. Downloadable PDF copies on our server expire after 15 minutes. Unattributed audio left by an older browser version is shown in Account for explicit cleanup; we keep it until ownership can be verified or you choose to discard it.

your choices

Delete any recording from its page. Delete the account from the account page in the app or on the web. Unsynced local recordings on a signed-out device are separate; delete them on that device if you no longer want them. In the app, the lock-screen card and the notes-ready notification can be turned off under Account → this phone. The microphone is only used while you are recording, and the phone shows the system indicator whenever it is.

recording other people

Recording others is your legal responsibility — let the room know.
